Medical schools aren’t doing enough to address the doctor shortage in Canada.

the fact is

text, fact

In the past 20 years, Canadian medical schools have increased the number of undergraduate medical student seats by 3,573 (a 43.6% increase)1 and added 5,370 residency positions (a 66.9% increase).2 Medical schools are now at, or beyond, capacity. The recent addition of new medical schools and satellite campuses will help over time, but more funding is needed for faculty, mentors, and infrastructure. There is also a need for more physician mentors to support undergraduate teaching and residency training. Canada needs increased funding for medical schools and faculty to continue expanding capacity and addressing the doctor shortage.
