the fact is
Nearly one-third of new medical graduates choose family medicine as their first specialty, reflecting a strong commitment to improving access to care for all Canadians.1 However, despite this interest, family doctors face significant challenges, including lower pay (up to 29%2 less than other specialties) and higher patient loads. These factors contribute to burnout and make it difficult for family doctors to keep up with demand, leading to a shortage of family physicians. Canada needs to address pay disparities and improve working conditions to make family medicine a sustainable career option and improve access to care.
